NEWS10 Visits the Saratoga Springs History Museum for Summer Ghost Tours

The ghosts of the Canfield Casino are making headlines this summer.

‍ ‍

On July 1, NEWS10 visited the Saratoga Springs History Museum to highlight the return of our Summer Ghost Tours of the Canfield Casino, a chilling seasonal program that invites visitors to step inside one of Saratoga’s most historic — and mysterious — landmarks.

‍ ‍

In the feature, NEWS10 described the tours as a perfect indoor summer activity for those looking to escape the heat while experiencing something “quite chilling” and packed with local history.

‍ ‍

Presented by the Saratoga Springs History Museum, the Summer Ghost Tours explore the haunted history, eerie stories, and unexplained happenings connected to the historic Canfield Casino. Once the heart of Saratoga’s Gilded Age social scene, the Casino welcomed gamblers, celebrities, socialites, and visitors from around the world. Today, the building is known not only for its elegance and history, but also for the ghostly legends and strange encounters that continue to fascinate guests.

‍ ‍

During the NEWS10 segment, Saratoga Springs History Museum Executive Director and tour guide James Parillo shared why the museum’s ghost stories are so compelling. He explained that the museum’s stories are connected not only to the building’s Gilded Age past, but also to the thousands of artifacts preserved inside the museum from people across Saratoga Springs history.

‍ ‍

Parillo also spoke about the museum’s paranormal reputation, noting that ghost hunters conducted an investigation at the museum in 2010 and that the Canfield Casino has appeared on national television programs, including recognition on the Travel Channel as one of America’s Most Terrifying Places.

‍ ‍

The feature also highlighted some of the eerie stories visitors may hear during the tours, including ghost sightings, unexplained sounds, and a mysterious glass chime said to have sounded on its own without a breeze. As Parillo explained in the segment, the museum’s ghost stories are not simply made up for effect — many come from personal experiences shared by museum staff, visitors, and paranormal investigators who have explored the building.

‍ ‍

The Summer Ghost Tours offer a fun and memorable way to experience Saratoga history from a spookier perspective. Guests will explore the historic halls, rooms, and exhibits of the Canfield Casino while hearing chilling stories connected to the building, the museum’s collections, and the people who helped shape Saratoga Springs.

‍ ‍

Whether you are a history lover, a ghost story fan, a returning tour guest, or simply looking for a unique summer activity in Saratoga Springs, this is one experience you will not want to miss.
